An Inside Look & a Little Tank Talk...

Many of you have asked about van life from a functional standpoint, so I made a series of six 1 minute long videos to give you an idea of how we live on the road.
Most everything is mentioned in the videos, but there is also an outdoor awning, exterior lighting & outlets for outside use, plus the TV rotates in & out for use in both areas.
The system runs off of a lithium battery (which charges while we drive, or can be plugged in to charge), and a propane tank (for heating). There are monitors in the van that display the levels on these systems & on the water tanks, so we know when to charge, fill, or empty.
There is a gray water tank that supplies the sinks & shower and a black water tank for the toilet. You can refill potable water and dump your dirty gray/black tanks at some larger gas stations like Loves, Pilot, & Marathon, RV parks, and other spots you learn to watch for on the road. We refill our two 3 gallon drinking water bottles at the water machines in the front of Wal-Mart and/or some grocery stores.
As far as the commonly asked question about the bathroom, we only use our toilet for #1 and generally find public places for #2. However, in desperate times, we use disposable bags (normally used for outdoor camping toilets) that we place over our van toilet, then tie it off & dispose of it. Other things we use to make life easier in the van are posted on the modifications link.
Though our particular van is a Winnebago Travato 59KL, there are plenty of different types of vans & RV's for purchase. Many are also available for rent if owning one is not in your plans. It's nice to have the ability to stay somewhere a little longer or leave sooner without worrying about hotel reservations etc... We love the freedom our tiny home on wheels gives us!
If you are interested in a Travato, there is a Facebook page you can join called "Travato Owners and Wannabees" which has about 19,000 members, many of whom who we pass frequently on the road. Owners offer great advice and plan meet ups on that page. There are lots of couples, but also many singles, so if you're considering a purchase, it might be a good place to start.
Happy trails!!
